Parent Volunteers

We are looking for parent volunteers who may be able to support the Academy with morning duties in the local area. We are hoping to establish a rota of parents who can work with staff to ensure that students arrive safely to school. Parents will need to be available from 8.10 - 8.35am.

Extended Curriculum 2019-2020

As we begin to draft our Extended Curriculum offer for next academic year we are keen to hear from parents and community educators interested in contributing their time, interests and expertise.

We are looking for parents/community volunteers interested in designing and delivering a 10 week course. 

The course would be delivered in one of the following timetable slots

1: After school 4pm - 5pm

2: Wednesday 2pm - 3pm

3: Friday 2pm - 4pm 

The course can be on anything, literally anything, that you are passionate about that you feel IAG learners may enjoy. 

This year one such parent volunteer ran a 10 week course for Year 9 students looking at business practices and innovation. 

We believe that community based  projects and parent educators can play a fundamental role in enabling IAG learners to grow as Global Citizens.

Invitation to join a Year 8 enquiry

We are currently developing a joint Individuals and Societies (Humanities) and English scheme of learning which will explore lived religions. We are keen to invite into school parents, carers, guardians who would share with our students what it is like to practice and live their religions. We are interested in all world religions and would love to hear from you if you would like to get involved.

Student Led Conferences, Parents evening and Summative Reports 

Wednesday marked the completion of a hugely successful and well attended Year 7 Student Led Conference. This built on the success of the Year 9 Student Led held earlier in the year and the Year 8 Parents Evening. We appreciate the kind words and praise from parents for these approaches and efforts by IAG to share with you your childs learning journey. 

Building on these events we will be sending home during the last term a final Summative report for the academic year. This report will include,

Teacher comments on what has gone well and next steps for each subject.

Jack Petchey

Last week parents, teachers and students nominated students at the academy who have gone above and beyond and achieved. There were so many wonderful and deserving nominations made however only four students could receive the award. Therefore it is my pleasure to announce the winners of this terms Jack Petchey award. From Year 7 a huge congratulations to Cassandra and Omari, Celise from Year 8 and lastly Kyron in Year 9. These students have displayed the IB learner traits of being Caring, Open-minded people who put others first, they are Knowledgable in their subjects and work incredibly hard to achieve. Outstanding work to everyone who was nominated and once again a huge congratulations to the four deserving students who will now have the honour of using their award money of £250 to put back into the school community.

Professional Pathways

It gives me great pleasure to write to you today to invite you to take part in IAG's Professional Pathways drop-down days for our Year 7 and 8 students.

On Wednesday 17th July (Year 7) and Friday 19th July (Year 8), as part of the International Academy of Greenwich's Global Citizenship Week, we are running a Careers drop-down day for Year 7 and 8 students. The objectives for the day are to give the students an experience of the real world workplace, allow them to identify the skills, attributes and knowledge needed for their future professions and help students to make an informed decision regarding their future learning.

As part of the day we are looking for volunteers who can come to the Academy and represent one of 8 Professional Pathways which are listed below:

Research and Development

Business and Finance

Communication and Media


Health, Fitness and Coaching

The Creative Arts

Information Technology


We need one volunteer to represent each of these 8 Professional Pathways on each day. If you are able to volunteer to do this on the 17th July or 19th July (or both dates), between 8:30am and 10:30am, we would be most grateful. Each volunteer will take part in 8 mini appointments with groups of students where you will share your work-related experiences, talk about your pathway to your present job and answer questions from the students. Following this, students will use this experience to write a CV applying for a job. I am certain the students at IAG would benefit greatly from your experiences and input.

Sporting fixtures in May & June 2019:

PHE Lessons this term

The sports that students will be learning in Term 6 are:

Boys: Athletics

Girls: Sports Aerobics

As we are approaching the summer term, we advise that all students bring sun cream to PHE lessons during hot weather. For the same reason, it is also important that all students carry at least a 500ml bottle of water with them that they can refill during PHE lessons. IAG will not be able to provide sun cream during lessons, due to the risk of an allergic reaction.


Students are required to wear the school PHE kit - please see below for PHE kit requirements:

Year 7 must wear the new logo IAG PHE kit

Year 8 and Year 9 can wear the non-logo PHE kit, however if students wish to transfer to the new logo IAG PHE kit they may do so.

During the summer term, we will allow students to wear shorts due to hot weather. Shorts must still meet the requirements of the IAG PHE kit. Shorts must be unbranded and navy blue.

Could parents please ensure that students are bringing in their PHE kits and PHE books on the day of their PHE lessons. Students are responsible for ensuring that they bring the correct equipment to school for all lessons - this includes PHE.

Participation in PHE

It is expected that all students bring the right PHE kit to school, regardless of the weather or their condition. We understand that students can be sick or injured, however, if they are in school and participating in all other lessons it is our expectation that they also attempt to participate in PHE.

Healthy Eating

Healthy eating is an important part of everyday life. The focus on healthy eating was relaunched with an informative assembly given to our students by the PHE department. Students are advised to eat healthily at the Academy. Students have received a pamphlet, which is for you to read with your child. Thank you for your continued support.

Announcement from the School Office

School Money/School Lunch Reminder

The school lunch menu can be found HERE or HERE. Next week, we will be on week 3 of the menu. Please be aware that the meat option each day is NOT Halal.

Please remember to make bookings through the School Money website at least 24 hours in advance, even if your child is entitled to Free School Meals. If you are having trouble logging on to the School Money system or have any queries, please do not hesitate to call the Academy, or email your query to admin@iaog.org.uk.

Free School Meals

If you believe your child may be entitled to Free School Meals, please follow the instructions to the Free School Meals Eligibility Checker HERE. The link can also be found in the ‘IAG Blog’ section of the new website. It is a free service, and if eligible, you will be issued with a certificate of eligibility on completion. Please save this, and email the certificate to admin@iaog.org.uk with the subject heading ‘FREE SCHOOL MEALS’. By checking your eligibility and providing us with the proof, you help the Academy to secure more funding through the DfE.


Please see the 'Request For Academy Hold Medication' form HERE. This must be filled out if your child will require medication throughout the school day. Students should not be carrying medication on their person around school - it should be handed in to the front desk at the start of the day so that we can securely store it for your child to use at specified times under the supervision of a first aider. Without this completed form, the Academy will not be able to give out medication.

Student Absence

To notify us of an absence please contact: attendance@iaog.org.uk or contact the school office.

Please do not send attendance emails to the info or admin email account.

Medical evidence is required for all pre-planned appointments.

When an absence is unplanned, if medical evidence is required, we will contact you.


Any students who are late twice in a week, will be required to attend a 90 minute detention after school the following Monday. The detention will be written in your child's planner. Students must be at the Academy for line up at 08:35am. Lessons start promptly at 08:45am.

Our Target

Our target for weekly attendance is above 97%. Please see our diamond attendance chart below for expectations and a breakdown of attendance percentages and what they mean.

End of Term 6 - Tuesday 23rd July 2019. Students will be dismissed from 2:15pm following award ceremonies and graduation.
